Urban Sound Suite has been broadcasting for 7 years.
Matt Houston, is a native of South Bend, Indiana, by way of Chicago, UK and the world.
His love of music began with listening to gospel and soul and playing the drums in church to “easy listening” to “rock” to the music and mixes from famed Chicago radio station WBMX.
After joining the military and travelled the world and performed DJ sets at clubs and house parties his musical tastes expanded to include (and not limited to) jazz, classical and world music genres… and still growing!
His on air experience began with recording/editing reel to reel church services for radio as a teenager. And in 2014, while on a lunch excursion was discovered, recruited (and subsequently mentored) by the renown “Science of Soul” presenter William “Bill” Randle (RIP) to Black Country Radio (formerly “The Bridge”) in Birmingham, UK where the Urban Sound Suite with Matt Houston first aired in May 2015. The Back In The Houston Groove; 5th Sunday Soul / Sunday Soul (Gospel Inspiration) were also created later that year.
History
DJ Matt created/introduced “Friday JumpStart” on Twilight Soul Radio, London, UK (Sep 2016 – Jan 2018). He began presenting duties with Sensational Sounds Radio, Roanoke, VA) where Wednesday WindUp & WindDown was created/introduced (Apr 2017 – Jun 2019). Ever moving forward he maintained multi-station presenting on KGM1 Radio, Oakland, CA Sep 2019 – Jan 2020), bringing “Weekend Soul / Gospel Inspiration) and KRS1 Radio, San Francisco, CA (Jan 2020 – Jan 2021) with Morning Soul (Gospel Inspiration) and Wax Radio, Indianapolis, IN (Nov 2019 – Jan 2021) introducing “Urban Sound Suite 2.0/The Upgrade with Matt Houston… The Captain.
